The department provides services in the field of selection and verification of existing and new prospective technologies (Best Available Technology - BAT). Technologies are aimed at processing and conditioning radioactive waste in terms of safety optimization and waste minimization including consideration of economic costs. The selected technologies are verified at a laboratory scale as well as in phases of pilot-run tests on demonstration devices.
The main activities include:
- Operational safety assessment of waste technologies
- Technical support and service analyses for the operation of liquid radioactive waste processing plant in nuclear power plants
- Research of processing and conditioning technologies for waste produced in generation III and IV reactors
- Research of safety of nuclear reactors and modelling of severe accidents
- Research activities aimed at processing and conditioning of hazardous waste
- Sanitation of damages to the environment and decommissioning of workplaces dealing with sources of ionising radiation
- Provision of services for transportation of dangerous goods according to the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR)
